# Active bank institutions (FDIC)

Identify active bank institutions by FDIC certificate, publisher name and institution address.

Available in the published API release. Discovery checked 2026-11-05; check current [availability](https://api.agentmasterdata.com/readyz) and [pricing](https://api.agentmasterdata.com/v1/pricing) before use.

## When to choose it

A data-cleanup agent resolves an FDIC certificate to the institution record, then checks the source name, charter class and address.

## Dataset facts

Source: FDIC BankFind Suite (`fdic-bankfind`)

Identifier: FDIC certificate (fdic_cert)

Coverage: 4,213 active institutions in the published release. The complete acquisition contained 27,835 institution records: 4,213 active and 23,622 closed or uninsured. Branch locations are excluded.

Freshness: Source index institutions_20261030090007, created 2026-10-30T11:58:49Z; published data version 2026-11-03T12:49:31Z. Versioned snapshot, not a live BankFind query; no automatic refresh schedule is promised.

Limitations: Active means publisher ACTIVE=1 at acquisition, not a real-time status, solvency or failed-bank determination. Names and institution addresses are publisher observations, not independently verified legal names or premises. No branches, financial measures, people, owners, contacts, websites or unreviewed history. Missing address components remain absent.

Access: Available through paid REST and MCP operations at the shared Agent Master Data API. Discovery is free; inspect current pricing and terms before authorizing payment.

Usage terms: FDIC institution data: public domain, US-Gov-PD-17USC105, with unrestricted distribution under the reviewed grant. No mandatory attribution is required. Agent Master Data selects the approved fields and restructures the records. Preserve the provenance and public-use terms returned by the API.

## Approved source fields

- id — stable fdic-bankfind:<certificate> record key
- fdic_cert — FDIC certificate identifier
- name — publisher institution name
- charter_class — raw FDIC BKCLASS value
- address — institution street, city, state and postal code
- status — active records only

Source fields describe the collection; use the API schema for response structure. The count and data version above describe the checked release, not a live counter.

## Query capabilities

- Resolve an institution using the fdic_cert identifier system
- Search institution names with bounded results; inspect source provenance before accepting a match
- Retrieve a golden record using its fdic-bankfind:<certificate> record ID
- Inspect record quality; relationship responses do not imply branch, ownership or merger coverage

## Resolve an FDIC certificate

Illustrative arguments for `resolve_master_data_entity`. Check current pricing and authorize the quoted spend before calling; this is not a sample result.

```
{
  "entity_type": "organization",
  "identifiers": [
    {
      "system": "fdic_cert",
      "value": "10004"
    }
  ]
}
```

Use these arguments in an MCP tool call or the JSON body of `POST https://api.agentmasterdata.com/v1/master-data/entities/resolve`. Use the returned record ID to retrieve its golden record, and inspect source provenance before accepting a match. This institution dataset has no reference-data domain.

## Before accepting a result

Inspect the response’s source licenses, public-use terms, version, warnings and available source timestamps. An absent retrieval timestamp is unknown freshness, not today’s data.
